An agreement reached this week will see The Scarborough & District football divisions continue as part of the York Football League.
In a joint Statement from the Scarborough & District Minor Football League, the North Riding County Football Association and the York Football League, plans have been outlined to ensure local junior football can continue in the Scarborough Area.
Concerns had been raised by local clubs after the Scarborough Minor League announced it was struggling to operate, suffering from a lack of volunteers for key roles.
At a Special General Meeting of the Scarborough & District Minor Football League on Tuesday, the member clubs voted to retain the Scarborough & District divisions, including teams from East Riding FA affiliated clubs, under the administration of the York Football League from the 2025/26 season.
Whilst this will see the existing Scarborough & District Minor Football League fold, it will ensure that a local football offer remains within the town and surrounding areas for young players.
The new structure will apply to all age groups, essentially meaning that all the current Scarborough & District leagues will continue but under the management of the York football League.
The new League Secretary will be an employee of North Riding FA, under an agreement already in place between the York Football League and the County FA.
